Slovenia in Every Season

Five unhurried days of Ljubljana, local food, historic towns and Alpine landscapes—adapted thoughtfully to the time of year.

This private five-day Slovenia tour connects Ljubljana with Gorenjska and the Julian Alps. The core programme remains the same throughout the year, while walks, opening times, seasonal food and mountain access are adjusted to current conditions. Spring brings fresh green landscapes, summer offers long days, autumn adds harvest flavours and quiet trails, and winter creates a more intimate rhythm. For a specifically snow-focused programme, see our Winter Journey.

Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1 — Ljubljana welcome and first tastes

Arrive in Ljubljana and meet your local host. Settle into a centrally located boutique hotel before an easy orientation walk along the Ljubljanica river and through the old town. We introduce the city through its market culture, architecture and seasonal flavours. A welcome tasting or dinner provides a relaxed start and time to discuss the journey ahead.

Day 2 — Ljubljana culture, food and green spaces

Explore Ljubljana at an unhurried pace: the central market, riverside lanes, Plečnik’s architecture and the castle hill. Meet a producer, chef or artisan when available and enjoy a regional lunch. The afternoon may include Tivoli Park, a museum or extra free time. In colder months we add more indoor cultural stops; in warmer months the day naturally flows onto terraces and green riverbanks.

Day 3 — North to Gorenjska: Radovljica and local encounters

Leave Ljubljana after breakfast and travel north to the Alpine region of Gorenjska. Pause in Radovljica, whose compact old town overlooks the Sava valley, for a guided walk and a local food experience. Depending on season, this may focus on honey, chocolate, traditional baking or another regional speciality. Continue to your Gorenjska hotel and enjoy a relaxed evening.

Julian Alps and green valley in northern Slovenia
The Julian Alps rise above the valleys and villages of northern Slovenia.

Day 4 — Lake Bled, Vintgar and the quieter Alps

Start at Lake Bled before the busiest part of the day. Choose a lakeside walk, a panoramic viewpoint or Bled Castle. When Vintgar Gorge is open and conditions are suitable, continue through its wooden galleries above the Radovna river. Outside the gorge season, we substitute a rewarding walk through nearby villages, the Radovna valley or another weather-appropriate route. Finish with a regional meal away from the main tourist streets.

Day 5 — Lake Bohinj and farewell

Spend the final day in Bohinj, the quieter alpine basin inside Triglav National Park. Walk beside the lake, visit a traditional village and learn how farming and mountain life shaped the region. Depending on weather and season, add a waterfall walk, a cable-car view or a cosy local tasting. After lunch, transfer to Ljubljana or the airport can be arranged.
